Meet Rosemary

Creative endeavors are my jam: anything that has to do with writing, including the esthetics and beauty of the written word, through calligraphy and illustration, and working full time as a writer of fiction and non-fiction. I also enjoy artwork and refurbishing old furniture when I'm not writing or reading.

Tips for Emerging Writers: be yourself

Sometimes it is both a blessing and a curse to have an eye for detail and to never, ever forget what is seen, heard or experienced, especially when it is coupled with an equally overpowering need to express these things. It can be off-putting to others when you go public and actually declare yourself a writer. I think it worries them that they might become the next character you write about. And, of course, as writers, we do write about them. But, all our characters are chimera of everyone we've ever encountered in our lives, whether or not we are consciously aware of it as we are creating them. Worse, even, can be the fear that someone will think the fiction to be truth about the self, an autobiographical account, so censorship and inhibition take over and ruin good writing. Shaking off "what others might think of me" has been the most difficult step in my emergent development as a writer.

With some Dallas writers...find your tribe.
Was excited to have been invited to read an excerpt from my work with other writers at The Wild Detective bookstore in Dallas' Bishop Arts district.
